Information for Parents/Guardians

Please contact Tony Gubby, Junior Organiser on any issues with Junior Cricket.

Brewood Cricket Club is an ECB Club Mark accredited club.  We were first accredited in 2005 and then again in 2008 and 2011.  We shall continue to implement the ECBs Club Mark accreditation scheme procedures and the ECB “Safe Hands” safeguarding children welfare policy.  The Club Mark scheme recognises clubs that are committed to providing a safe, child friendly environment for children and young people.

Many youngsters suffer from Asthma and related illnesses.  If your child has an inhaler please ensure they bring it on coaching evenings

We provide opportunities for young people between the ages of 6 and 18 to receive coaching and competition in the Staffordshire Youth League and East Shropshire Cricket League.  All our coaches are members of the ECB Coaches Association; all have been checked by the Criminal Record Bureau for relevant offences and will adopt and work within the ECB Code of Conduct and good practice.

We are keen to try and involve parents and carers in the club and would like to invite you to an open evening from 6-30pm on 3 April 2012 when you can meet coaches/managers and find out more about the club. Below is some information about session times and dates, and details regarding travel arrangements, kit and membership.

Coaching sessions will take place on Tuesdays  (U9/U13) and Thursdays (other age groups) at 6-30pm from 10 and 12 April to 7 and 9 August.

Arrangements should be made for your child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We appreciate it if children can arrive promptly and are collected promptly at the end of the session, if they are not making their own way home. If you are going to be late picking your child up, please contact the age group coach.

For the safety of your child it is important that the club is informed of any medical condition or allergies that may be relevant should your child fall ill or be involved in an accident at the club.

If you would like to talk to someone at the club about this information or your child’s involvement with the club, please contact the Junior Organiser.

Buying a new cricket bat?
If you are considering buying your child a new cricket bat, can I urge you not to obtain one that is too heavy for the child to control.  This is a common mistake and it results in the child being unable to execute correctly many batting strokes and once habits are ingrained it is very difficult to correct them.  The following is a simple and general guide, but other factors such as the strength of the child and feel and pick up must be taken into account.
In the shop ask the child to hold the bat with the top hand in position horizontally for fifteen seconds; if it drops, it’s probably too heavy.

Average Player Height and Bat Size
4’3″        One
4’3″ – 4’6″    Two
4’6″ – 4’9″    Three
4’9″ – 4’11″    Four
4’11″ – 5’2″    Five
5’2″ – 5’3″    Six
